For most visitors, Sanrio Puroland is an easy day trip. It is about 30 minutes from Shinjuku by Keio Limited Express plus a 5-minute walk, so there is little to gain from moving hotels for one park day. Staying overnight near Tama Center makes sense in three cases: you are travelling with small children, you want to be first in line at opening on a busy day, or you are adding Tama Zoo or Seiseki Sakuragaoka the next day.
One thing many guides miss: there is almost nowhere to stay at Tama Center itself. Keio Plaza Hotel Tama, the big hotel by the station, closed in January 2023. The nearest option is LINK FOREST, about 10 minutes on foot from the station. Everything else means a train or monorail ride.
How far is Puroland from central Tokyo?
Official travel times to Tama Center Station (多摩センター), as of October 2026:
| From | Route | Time (official) |
|---|---|---|
| Shinjuku (新宿) | Keio Line Limited Express toward Hashimoto (橋本) | About 30 min |
| Shin-Yurigaoka (新百合ヶ丘) | Odakyu Line | About 12 min |
| Tachikawa (立川) | Tama Monorail (Tachikawa-Kita / 立川北) | 23 min |
| Yokohama (横浜) | JR Yokohama Line to Hashimoto, then Keio Line | About 60 min |
| Haneda Airport | Airport limousine bus to Keio Tama Center | 90–140 min (standard) |

Puroland is about 5 minutes on foot from Tama Center Station (Keio, Odakyu and Tama Monorail). For step-by-step routes, see How to Get to Sanrio Puroland From Shinjuku and From Tokyo Station, Shibuya and Haneda.
Day trip vs overnight: the trade-offs
| Day trip (from Shinjuku) | Overnight near Tama Center | |
|---|---|---|
| Travel on the day | About 30 min by train + 5 min walk, each way | 10 min walk (LINK FOREST) or a monorail/train ride (other bases) |
| Hotel choice | Wide | Very limited at Tama Center |
| Cost | No extra night | One extra night, plus a hotel change |
| Opening time | Need an early train on busy days | Easy to be in line early |
| Midday break | Re-entry lets you step out, but your hotel is far | Walk back for a nap (LINK FOREST) |
| Luggage | None if you keep your hotel | Lockers needed on check-out day |
| Next day | Back in central Tokyo | Tama Zoo, Seiseki Sakuragaoka, or onward west |
A day trip works well if…
- You are staying in Shinjuku or anywhere on the Keio Line. The Limited Express runs straight to Keio Tama Center.
- You plan a half day. The Afternoon Passport (entry from 14:00) fits a day trip neatly; see the half-day itinerary.
- You don’t want to move luggage. Changing hotels for one night costs more than the 30-minute ride saves.
- Your group is adults or older children who can handle the train back after the evening show.
Staying nearby works well if…

- You have toddlers or babies. Puroland restricts strollers on 1F and 2F on busy days, and long train rides at the end of the day are hard. Being able to walk back to LINK FOREST for a nap helps. See Sanrio Puroland with kids.
- You want to be early in the line on a busy day. The outdoor entry waiting area opens at 5:40 (official FAQ). Being 10 minutes away makes early arrival realistic.
- You are adding Tama sights the next day. Tama Zoo is 8 minutes by monorail from Tama Center, and Seiseki Sakuragaoka is a short trip away. See things to do near Sanrio Puroland.
- You want a Sanrio-themed night. Keio Plaza Hotel Hachioji, Puroland’s official hotel, has Hello Kitty, My Melody & Kuromi and Little Twin Stars character rooms. From Hachioji (八王子) you take the Keio Line to Takahata-fudo (高幡不動), then the monorail (12 min).
If you stay: where?
| Base | Why | To Tama Center |
|---|---|---|
| LINK FOREST | The only lodging within walking distance; rooms from 25 m²; single from ¥10,450 per person (as of October 2026) | 10 min on foot |
| Keio Plaza Hotel Hachioji | Sanrio character rooms | Keio Line + Tama Monorail |
| Tachikawa (several hotels on Puroland’s list) | Direct monorail, many hotels | 23 min monorail |
| Hashimoto (several hotels on Puroland’s list) | Keio Line direct; includes chain business hotels | Keio Line |
Puroland’s own nearby accommodation page lists these hotels with official booking links. For details and how to choose, see where to stay near Sanrio Puroland.
If you day-trip: stay on the Keio Line
The best base for a Puroland day trip is a hotel near Keio Shinjuku Station, or anywhere on the Keio Line, so you don’t have to change trains. See Shinjuku hotels with a direct train to Puroland.
Check-out day logistics
If you stay one night and visit Puroland on your check-out day:
- LINK FOREST check-out is 10:00 (as of October 2026). Puroland’s opening time varies by day, so check the calendar.
- Puroland’s 3rd-floor lockers fit a standard suitcase in the large size (¥1,000, cashless only, same day only). If they are full, the information counter keeps bags for ¥1,000 each.
- Re-entry is allowed with a hand stamp, so you can go out for lunch and come back.
Our take
| Your situation | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| First Tokyo trip, adults, Shinjuku hotel | Day trip |
| Half-day visit only | Day trip |
| Family with children under about 5 | Consider one night at LINK FOREST |
| Big Sanrio fans | One night in a Keio Plaza Hotel Hachioji character room |
| Adding Tama Zoo or Seiseki the next day | Stay one night (Tama Center or Tachikawa) |
If you do stay, book early. With Keio Plaza Hotel Tama gone and its replacement planned as shops and apartments (fiscal 2028), there are very few rooms near Puroland.
Prices and hours change. Check the official site before you go.
