On a Whisper of the Heart walk, plan to eat at one of two places: the station before the climb or the Sakuragaoka roundabout at the top. There is little in between. The station side has the most choice, with bakery-cafés and coffee shops in the Keio Seiseki-sakuragaoka Shopping Center and in VITA MALL SEISEKI by the West Exit. The roundabout has two small shops that are also stamp-rally spots.

Before the climb: around the station

R Baker (Building B, 2F)

The Keio Seiseki-sakuragaoka Shopping Center lists R Baker as a bakery and café serving bread, coffee, tea and juice. Its bread is made with homemade yeast and rice flour for a chewy texture. Hours are 8:00–20:00 and there are 16 seats. Takeout is available, which makes it the easiest option for something to eat at the top of Irohazaka.

PIER’S CAFE (Building A, 7F)

PIER’S CAFE’s official site describes bread baked in-house every day, siphon coffee, pasta and desserts. It has 66 seats on the 7th floor of the shopping center connected to the station, and is open 10:00–21:00 daily (as of October 2026). Choose it if you want a proper sit-down meal before or after the walk, especially on a rainy day.

Takagi Coffee (VITA MALL SEISEKI, 2F)

Takagi Coffee opened its first Tokyo branch here on February 2, 2026. It is a specialty-coffee café with its own roasting, and a sister shop of the Osaka pancake café belle-ville. The operator gives the location as directly connected to the West Exit and the hours as 9:00–21:00 (last order 20:30). A morning menu runs 9:00–11:00. Pancakes are the signature.

Other options in the shopping center

The shopping center’s floor guide also lists Kobeya Kitchen (bread, sandwiches and cakes), Starbucks, Komeda Coffee, Tsubakiya Cafe, Saryo Itoen (Japanese tea and matcha sweets) and KALDI Coffee Farm (coffee beans and imported food to take away). These are useful if the first choices are full.

At the top: the Sakuragaoka roundabout

Tama City’s walking map (April 2025) lists both of these shops as stamp-rally points (③ and ④). Either one completes the last space on the card.

Noa Yogashiten (ノア洋菓子店)

A Western-style sweets shop on the roundabout that the map describes as the model for the roundabout in the film.

Dining Wazakura (ダイニング・和桜)

The back of the map carries an ad for Dining Wazakura, describing it as a place for good food and drinks. The ad also mentions nabeyaki udon by reservation at least three days in advance.

Further afield

  • Former Tama Seiseki Memorial Hall: GO TOKYO says this hall in Sakuragaoka Park is free to enter and has an on-site café. Opening days are limited, so check before you go. Reach it by bus to Kinenkan-mae.
  • Seiseki Kawamachi: Keio’s area guide describes this riverside green space as hosting events and food trucks. It is worth checking if you visit on an event day.

Tips for planning food around the walk

  1. Buy bread before you cross the river. There are few shops on Irohazaka.
  2. Plan around the roundabout shops’ days off. If the roundabout shops are closed, you can’t get stamps ③/④ there. Eat at the station instead.
  3. Don’t eat at Konpira Shrine. It is a small local shrine inside a residential area.
  4. Take your rubbish with you. Tama City’s map specifically asks visitors not to litter.
  5. Rainy day? PIER’S CAFE and the shopping center are indoors and connected to the station.
