Most of what is worth doing near Sanrio Puroland sits within a 5–10 minute walk of Tama Center Station (多摩センター駅): a large renovated park, a free archaeology museum with a reconstructed Jomon village, a shopping mall with a whole restaurant floor, and a public hot-spring bath right next door to Puroland. If you want something bigger, Tama Zoo is 8 minutes away by monorail.

Puroland itself allows re-entry on every operating day (you get a hand stamp at the exit), so you can step out for lunch or a walk and come back (as of October 2026). That makes the area around it more useful than many visitors expect.

Tama Central Park and Parthenon Tama

The walk from the station toward Parthenon Tama is a gently rising pedestrian promenade; Parthenon Tama’s own site describes it as about 5 minutes on a slight uphill slope, ending at the building’s 80-step grand staircase. Parthenon Tama is a city-run cultural centre with a large hall, a small hall and a history museum. It reopened after major renovation in 2022.

Behind it is Tama Central Park, which reopened in April 2025 after a large-scale renovation. The park’s official site lists about 110,000 m² of space with a large pond, a big lawn, a playground area, a children’s terrace, a flower and bakery cafe, and a traditional farmhouse (the Former Tomizawa Family Residence). It also lists barrier-free toilets and an elevator. The park runs weekend markets and kitchen cars on many weekends, so check its event calendar before you go.

Why go: Puroland is completely indoors. If you have kids who need to run around, or you simply want daylight between shows, the park is the closest open space.

Tokyo Metropolitan Archaeological Center

This is a quiet, free museum about the archaeology of the Tama New Town area, with a reconstructed Jomon-period village in the garden outside. Its official hours are 9:30–17:00, with the outdoor village closing at 16:30 from November to February (as of October 2026). It closes over the New Year holiday (29 December to 3 January) and on a few maintenance days, which are listed on its website.

It works well as a 30–60 minute stop on a rainy day or with children who like hands-on displays.

Cocolia Tama Center (shopping and food)

Cocolia is the mall right by the station. Its official hours are 10:00–20:00 for the basement to 5th floor and 11:00–22:00 for the 6th-floor restaurant floor, with a Starbucks on the 1st floor that opens at 7:00 (as of October 2026). The basement has a food court and food stalls; the 6th floor has sit-down restaurants. Cocolia also lists a baby rest room, stroller lending and coin lockers.

See where to eat near Sanrio Puroland for which floor suits which kind of meal.

Gokurakuyu Tama Center (public bath)

Gokurakuyu is a large public bath (sento-style, with indoor and outdoor baths) located right next to Puroland. Its official hours are 9:00 to 2:00 the next morning on weekdays and public holidays, and 7:00 to 2:00 on Saturdays and Sundays, with last entry at 1:20 (as of October 2026). It is open year-round.

Two rules to know before you go:

  • People with tattoos cannot enter, and tattoo stickers must be removed.
  • Smartwatches and all wristwatches are not allowed in the baths or sauna.

Admission is listed on the official site and differs between weekdays and weekends. Unaccompanied children are restricted, so families should go together.

Hello Kitty around the station

Tama City has run a “town where you can meet Hello Kitty” initiative with local businesses since 2002, and the route between the station and Puroland includes Hello Kitty-themed street design. Events around the station sometimes include Hello Kitty greetings; these are announced by Tama City and are not daily. Our Sanrio details walk covers what you will pass.

Going further: Tama Zoo and Seiseki Sakuragaoka

  • Tama Zoo: Take the Tama Monorail from Tama Center to Tama-Dobutsukoen (多摩動物公園) Station. The official monorail timetable lists 8 minutes and an IC fare of ¥265 for adults (as of October 2026). A zoo visit is a half day on its own, so it suits travellers staying overnight. See A Day at Tama Zoo by Monorail.
  • Seiseki Sakuragaoka (聖蹟桜ヶ丘) (Whisper of the Heart): Take the monorail to Takahata-fudo (高幡不動) (12 minutes) and change to the Keio Line toward Shinjuku. See our Seiseki Sakuragaoka guide.

Before you go: practical notes

  • Puroland’s hours change by day and it has closed days. Check the official calendar before planning anything around it.
  • The queue for Puroland is outdoors. The building is indoors, but the entry line is not covered, so bring an umbrella in the rainy season.
  • Lockers: Puroland has cashless lockers on the 3rd floor (¥300–¥1,000 depending on size, same-day only), and Cocolia has coin lockers too.
  • Tickets: Puroland passport prices vary by date.

You can buy a date-specific official e-passport (which includes the required visit reservation) on the Sanrio Puroland official site. Our tickets guide explains the options.

You can also book Sanrio Puroland e-tickets on Klook.

If you would rather not rush back to central Tokyo, see where to stay near Sanrio Puroland. There are very few hotels within walking distance.

Prices and hours change. Check the official site before you go.
