Yes, Sanrio Puroland is worth visiting as an adult if you like Sanrio characters or stage shows. The best things there for adults are the theater shows, the main parade and the character meetings, not the rides. There are only a few gentle rides and no roller coasters, so if you mainly want thrills, it is probably not for you. Because the whole park is indoors, it also works on a rainy or very hot day.
This guide covers what adults actually spend their time on, which shows work if you don’t speak Japanese, and how to keep the day affordable.
Who will enjoy it, and who might not
| You will probably enjoy it if… | You might want to skip it if… |
|---|---|
| You grew up with Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi or Cinnamoroll | You are looking for big rides like those at Tokyo Disney Resort or Fuji-Q |
| You enjoy live stage shows and musicals | You don’t care about the characters at all |
| You want photos with the characters | You only have a few hours in Tokyo and prefer the city center |
GO TOKYO describes Puroland as small but full of bright colors and cuteness, which sets the right expectations. It is a show-and-character park rather than a ride park.
What adults actually do there
1. Theater shows
Several shows run every day in different theaters. As of October 2026, the official site lists:
| Show | What it is | Length | Language note |
|---|---|---|---|
| KAWAII KABUKI: Hello Kitty’s troupe performs Momotaro | A musical that mixes Sanrio “kawaii” with kabuki theater. Running since 2018 in the Märchen Theater | About 40 min | Subtitles in English, Chinese, Korean and Thai through the free “Omotenashi Guide” app |
| beyond words (びょんわぁ) | Puroland’s first non-verbal show, with My Melody and Kuromi in a fairyland. Running since December 2024 in the Fairyland Theater | About 25 min | No dialogue, so no Japanese needed |
Photography, video and audio recording are not allowed during KAWAII KABUKI.
Install the Omotenashi Guide app before you arrive so the subtitles are ready on your phone.
2. The main parade
The Quest of Wonders Parade is Puroland’s main parade, renewed in December 2025 for the first time in 10 years. It runs on the 1st floor of Puro Village and lasts about 25 minutes, with Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin and Kuromi on the floats. The park describes it as a participation-style parade. For a guaranteed view you can buy a reserved seat (see “Paid extras” below).
3. Meeting the characters
The greetings are what many adult fans come for:
- Character Greeting Residence (キャラグリレジデンス): themed rooms (five in total) where you can take photos with characters. It needs a numbered ticket (整理券). Included with your passport.
- Lady Kitty House: a “kawaii × celebrity” themed house where you are welcomed like a celebrity. Also included with your passport.
- Welcome greeting: characters come out near the Tree of Wisdom stage on the 1st floor (Puro Village) from opening time. Who appears changes every day.
- Special greetings: limited-time greetings for character anniversaries. In autumn 2026 these include Wish Me Mell’s 15th anniversary and Pompompurin’s 30th anniversary. Some must be bought in advance, so check the official greetings page before you go.
4. Seasonal adult-only ride
In Halloween season the Sanrio Character Boat Ride turns into a horror version, “Noroware Pierrot”. In 2026 it runs on weekends and holidays until 3 November, from 16:00, and only visitors of junior-high age and above can ride. Elementary-school children and younger are not allowed. It is one of the few things at Puroland made for teenagers and adults.
5. Illuminations and photo spots
Until 31 December 2026, Puro Village hosts the Pompompurin 30th Anniversary illumination show (about 10 minutes). The park also lists dedicated photo spots, and the indoor lighting makes it easy to take photos whatever the weather.
Making it work without Japanese
- Choose the non-verbal show (beyond words) and use the subtitle app for KAWAII KABUKI.
- Use the official English overseas page for basics, partner ticket sites and a counter discount coupon. The detailed schedule and price calendar are only on the Japanese site.
- Check the schedule up to two weeks ahead. The official show schedule only goes about two weeks into the future, so check it again close to your date.
- Puroland’s English page also lists a VIP Plan with a personal guide who speaks several languages, including English and Chinese. It includes priority access, exclusive parade seating, greetings and special meals. Check the plan details for the languages available.
Keeping costs down
- Afternoon Passport: entry from 14:00 at a lower price (adult from ¥2,800 vs from ¥3,900 for the Day Passport, as of October 2026). If you mainly want one show, the parade and a greeting, an afternoon can be enough.
- Weekdays are cheaper. In the official calendar for October 2026, adult Day Passports were mostly ¥4,300–¥4,900 on weekdays and ¥5,600–¥6,300 on weekends and holidays.
- Keio Amusement Passport: if you come by Keio Line, this train + passport set (¥4,460 adult) is usually cheaper than buying both separately. See our combo ticket guide.
All the ticket options are compared in our Sanrio Puroland tickets guide.
You can also book Sanrio Puroland e-tickets on Klook.
Paid extras worth knowing about
- PUROPASS priority tickets: priority entry (¥1,500), and reserved seats for the main parade (¥1,000–¥3,000), sold in advance via Lawson Ticket. Some theater and ride PUROPASSes are sold in the park on the day. A PUROPASS does not replace your passport.
- Merchandise: the main shop near the entrance and the shop in Puro Village carry park merchandise. For example, the “Wonder Ribbon Light” sold for the illumination show costs ¥3,850.
